Aquamarine Medicals was founded in 2018 by Dr Christine Penny, who brings over 20 years’ experience in Diving and Maritime Medicine. Since then, our team of doctors and nurses has grown, bringing with it a broad range of expertise.

Today, we provide medicals for maritime and offshore roles, sporting events, and other workplace requirements, as well as drug and alcohol testing and fully bespoke assessments. Whatever your needs, we offer a professional, efficient and friendly service.

Our sister service, the Aquamarine Health Clinic, offers travel and occupational vaccinations along with private blood tests, which can be booked alongside your medical for added convenience.

Team Aquamarine

Our team is made up of highly experienced clinicians with backgrounds in maritime, diving, general practice and travel medicine. We are committed to providing clear, professional guidance and ensuring every client leaves confident and prepared for their role.

    Dr Christine Penny

    Director

    Christine has over 20 years experience in diving and maritime medicine, having provided advice and medical support for diverse organisations for both diving and seafaring medical issues.

    Christine has worked extensively in hyperbaric units both in the UK and Australia for civilian and military organisations, including provision of medical support onboard research vessels, for submarine escape training and tunnelling projects. More recently, Christine attained a Masters in Maritime Health.

    Christine has dived extensively around the UK and worldwide and was co-owner of a UK based dive liveaboard.

    Helen Parker

    Lead Nurse

    The Local!

    Having gained both her Nursing degree and postgraduate certification in Plymouth, mum of two has Nursing experience in Orthopaedics, Hyperbaric Medicine and also Practice Nursing.

    Helen is Lead Nurse for Aquamarine Medicals and keeps us all right.

    Catherine Brewer

    Specialist Travel Health Nurse

    Cat has been Nursing for over 20 years and much of her career has been focused on tropical diseases, expedition medicine and travel health. She has travelled extensively with her Nursing, being fortunate enough to work in numerous Latin American countries , Malawi, India and Nepal. She then spent 8 years working in her local hospital and in Hyperbaric Nursing.

    Cat has the Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and is on the Faculty at the University of Glasgow now teaching the course. Cat is widely published and provides regular training in Travel Medicine.

    Mandy Hagues

    Healthcare Assistant

    Married mother of three, Mandy has been with Aquamarine Medicals since the start. Mandy has experience working in Civil Service & Medical Administration spheres and enjoys her continued work as a Healthcare Assistant in the NHS. With family who work offshore, Mandy understands the challenges involved and enjoys meeting poeple we see for medicals.

    Sylvia Calladine

    Nurse

    Sylvia, a nurse for over 15 years, she has 10 years experience in neuro intensive care before moving to hyperbaric nursing and community projects in both the NHS and private medicine. She loves to be outdoors, running, hiking and surfing.

    Administrator

    Shannon is our Senior Administrator and is the original friendly welcoming voice of Aquamarine you will meet on reception. Shannon has a Masters in Marine Biology from the University of Plymouth and has been to Everest basecamp.

    Shannon Lewis

    Administrator

    Originally from Suffolk, Shannon moved to Cornwall for university in 2014, fell in love with the beaches, and has not left the southwest since. Shannon has completed a PhD at the University of Plymouth and has been working part time for aquamarine during her studies.

    Lauren has years of experience in various customer facing roles and was awarded with 'Business Apprentice of the Year' in 2024! She has lived in Plymouth her whole life and loves it here - if the sun is out you'll find her on the beach.
