A team of doctors and nurses with wide and varied experience, based in Stonehouse, Plymouth.

 

Aquamarine Medicals was founded by Dr Christine Penny in 2018. Christine has over 20 years experience working in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, and for over the last 10 years Maritime Medicine.

As the team has expanded, so has our expertise. We can now provide medicals for sporting events, other work-related medicals, drug and alcohol testing and bespoke medicals. Get in touch to tell us what you need.

Meet the Team

  • Dr Christine Penny

    Christine has vast experience in maritime medicine, having provided advice and medical support for diverse organisations for both diving and seafaring medical issues. Christine has worked extensively in hyperbaric units both in the UK and Australia for civilian and military organisations, including provision of medical support onboard research vessels, for submarine escape training and tunnelling projects. Christine has dived extensively around the UK and worldwide and was co-owner of a UK based dive liveaboard. Doctor, diver, sailor and GP.

  • Dr Julie Hunt

    Julie has a wealth of experience across the medical spectrum having worked extensively in emergency medicine, maritime medicine, polar medicine, travel medicine, and general practice. In addition, she has an ongoing interest in medical education as well as providing medical support for events such as half marathons and powerboat racing. Julie’s main loves in life are adventuring, photography and her dogs.

  • Helen Parker

    The Local! Having gained both her Nursing degree and post graduate certification in Plymouth, mum of two has Nursing experience in Orthopaedics, Hyperbaric Medicine and also Practice Nursing. Helen is Lead Nurse for Aquamarine Medicals Ltd.

  • Catherine Brewer

    Cat has been Nursing for over 20 years and much of her career has been focused on tropical diseases, expedition medicine and travel health. She has travelled extensively with her Nursing, being fortunate enough to work in numerous Latin American countries , Malawi, India and Nepal. She then spent 8 years working in her local hospital and in Hyperbaric Nursing.

  • Mandy Hagues

    Married mother of three, with experience of Civil Service & Medical Administration spheres, has thoroughly enjoyed being a Healthcare Assistant for the past 6 years within the NHS. Mandy has been with Aquamarine Medicals Ltd since the start and enjoys working with Aquamarine, meeting a wide array of people.

  • Shannon Booth

    Shannon is our Administrator and is the friendly welcoming voice of Aquamarine you will meet on reception. Shannon has a Masters in Marine Biology from the University of Plymouth and has been to Everest basecamp.

  • Sylvia Calladine

    Sylvia, a nurse for over 15 years, she has 10 years experience in neuro intensive care before moving to hyperbaric nursing and community projects in both the NHS and private medicine. She loves to be outdoors, running, hiking and surfing.
