British Antarctic Survey Medical
Come and see our very own Dr Julie Hunt for your British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Medical. Julie has worked for the British Antarctic Survey Medical Unit (BASMU) on South Georgia and aboard the JCR.
BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. Through its extensive logistic capability and know-how, BAS facilitates access for the British and international science community to the UK polar research operation.
Part of the preparation to go south, and work in some of the most remote areas of the planet, is for personnel to undergo a medical. Please bring a completed BASMU 3 form to your medical.
The BASMU 4 must be done prior to the first deployment. After that it, and thereafter according to age, unless requested sooner by BASMU. Currently the medical needs renewed every five years until age 35, three yearly until age 50, and annual medicals after 50 years of age. You are required to bring a completed BASMU 3 form to this medical.
